How do I book a kitchen planning appointment online?
Arranging a kitchen planning appointment is easy. Go to our Book a planning appointment page and click on a date and time that suits you. Kitchen units
Kitchen units define the layout, storage capacity and overall appearance of a kitchen, making them the most important element of any kitchen design. Whether you are planning a full renovation or refreshing an existing space, choosing the right kitchen cupboards and configuration is worth getting right from the start.
Kitchen cabinets are available in a wide range of door styles to suit different aesthetics. High gloss kitchen doors suit contemporary schemes where a sleek, reflective finish is preferred, while matt kitchen doors offer a softer appearance and a practical, easy-to-maintain surface that works well in busy kitchens.
For those updating an existing kitchen without replacing the carcasses, replacement kitchen cupboard doors and shaker cabinet doors offer a cost-effective way to refresh the look without a full renovation.
Base kitchen units, wall cupboards and tall units cover most standard layout configurations, while pantry cabinets provide dedicated storage for food, appliances and everyday essentials. For colour, white cupboard doors and grey cupboard doors are the most versatile choices, while green cabinet doors suit those looking for a bolder, more characterful finish.
Worktops
Kitchen worktops have a significant impact on both the appearance and practicality of a kitchen, and choosing the right material comes down to your budget, how the kitchen is used and the style you want to achieve.
Laminate worktops are the most popular choice, offering strong wear resistance and a wide range of finishes at an accessible price point. Solid wood worktops bring natural warmth and character and can be sanded and refinished over time. Compact laminate worktops offer a slimmer profile with the same durability as standard laminate, suited to contemporary kitchen schemes. Stone effect worktops are increasingly popular, with marble effect worktops, quartz effect worktops and oak effect worktops delivering a high-end appearance with practical, low-maintenance surfaces.
For layout flexibility, breakfast bar worktops provide a casual dining and socialising space within the kitchen. Worktops are available across a range of lengths and thicknesses to suit everything from compact kitchens to larger open-plan layouts.
Kitchen upstands, edging strips and trims provide a neat, cohesive finish at wall junctions and exposed edges, protecting against moisture and everyday wear. Choosing matching or complementary finishes across kitchen countertops, upstands and trims helps create a consistent, well-finished result.
Sinks & taps
Kitchen sinks and kitchen taps are among the most frequently used fixtures in any kitchen, and choosing the right combination affects both how the kitchen functions day to day and how it looks as a finished space.
Ceramic kitchen sinks are a popular choice for classic and farmhouse-style kitchens, offering a traditional look and a durable surface. Composite sinks and granite sinks provide a more contemporary finish with strong resistance to scratches and heat. Belfast sinks remain a timeless option for country and heritage kitchen schemes, while undermount sinks create a sleek, seamless appearance when paired with contemporary worktops.
Mixer taps are the most versatile choice for most kitchen layouts, providing straightforward hot and cold control in a single unit. Pull out kitchen taps offer added flexibility for rinsing and cleaning around the sink. Boiling water taps deliver instant hot water directly from the tap, reducing the need for a kettle and freeing up worktop space.
Finish choices allow you to coordinate sinks and taps with the rest of the kitchen. Black kitchen taps and black kitchen sinks suit bold, contemporary schemes, while white sinks provide a clean, classic finish that works across most kitchen styles.
Appliances
Choosing the right kitchen appliances has a direct impact on how efficiently and comfortably a kitchen functions, and the best combination depends on your cooking habits, available space and whether you are planning a full refit or upgrading individual items.
Ovens, hobs and cookers are the core cooking appliances for most kitchens. Induction hobs are increasingly popular for their speed, energy efficiency and safer cooking surface, while gas hobs remain a familiar choice for those who prefer direct flame cooking. Cooker hoods and integrated extractor fans remove steam, heat and cooking odours, helping to keep the kitchen fresh and protecting cabinetry from grease buildup.
For refrigeration, fridge freezers are available in a range of sizes and configurations to suit different layouts and household needs. Integrated fridge freezers sit behind cupboard doors for a streamlined, fitted appearance, while American style fridge freezers provide generous storage capacity for larger or busier households.
Dishwashers save time on everyday cleaning up and are available in integrated and freestanding formats to suit most kitchen layouts. Microwaves and air fryers add further convenience for reheating, quick cooking and healthier everyday meals.
FAQs
What is the best order to plan a kitchen renovation?
Start with layout and units, as these determine where plumbing, electrics and appliances will sit. Once the layout is confirmed, choose worktops, sinks and taps, then select appliances that fit the available spaces. Flooring and finishing details such as upstands, trims and lighting are best left until the units and worktops are installed.
Â
Can you replace kitchen cupboard doors without changing the units?
Yes, replacement kitchen doors can be fitted to existing carcasses as long as the frames are structurally sound and the hinge positions are compatible. This is one of the most cost-effective ways to update a kitchen, transforming the look without the disruption and expense of a full unit replacement.
Â
What is the difference between a Belfast sink and an undermount sink?
A Belfast sink sits on top of or within the worktop with an exposed front apron, and is associated with traditional and farmhouse kitchen styles. An undermount sink is fixed beneath the worktop with no visible rim, creating a seamless, easy-to-clean surface that suits contemporary and minimalist kitchen designs.
Â
Which kitchen worktop is best for everyday use?
Compact laminate is widely considered the most practical choice for everyday use, offering strong resistance to scratches, heat, moisture and impact. Standard laminate kitchen worktops also perform well at a lower price point. Solid wood kitchen worktops require more maintenance but can be sanded and refinished over time, making them a long-lasting option with the right care.
Â
What is the cheapest way to update a kitchen without replacing everything?
Replacing cupboard doors and drawer fronts is the most cost-effective update, giving the kitchen a completely different look without changing the underlying units. Replacing worktops, sinks or taps can also make a significant visual difference at a lower cost than a full renovation, particularly when combined with a fresh coat of paint on walls.
Â
How long does it take to fit a new kitchen?
A straightforward kitchen fit typically takes between three and five days for a professional installer, depending on the size of the kitchen and the complexity of the plumbing and electrical work involved. A DIY installation may take longer, particularly if worktops need cutting or appliances need connecting. Ordering all units and worktops before starting helps avoid delays.
